ADMISSION OF STUDENTS TO COURSES CONDUCTED AT COLLEGES OF
TECHNOLOGY/TECHNICAL COLLEGES – 2024
Applications are invited from eligible candidates for the courses conducted in colleges of technology/technical colleges as specified in this notification. Students will be selected for admission based on their qualifications, merit order, and the capacity of each course.
Application Process:
- All details are available on the website www.dtet.gov.lk, where applications can be submitted online. If unable to do so, applicants should follow the instructions provided in this notification.
- Prospective candidates can send prepared applications, following the "Specimen Application form" on an A4 sheet of paper, to the Director/Principal of the respective College of Technology/Technical College. Applications should be sent in a Registered Cover and reach the specified address on or before 15.12.2023. Applications should not be sent to any director's name or personal address.

Course Application Details:
- The top left-hand corner of the envelope should be marked with the title and course code of the applied course. Separate applications should be submitted for each course (e.g., National Diploma in Construction Technology - Etb 05).
Application Deadline:
- Applications received after the closing date will be considered only if vacancies are available.
On-the-Job Training (OJT):
- Six (6) months of compulsory OJT is required for all full-time courses of NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) levels 4, 5, and 6. However, the OJT duration for NVQ levels 5/6 is 1 year.
- All diploma (NVQ 5/6) level courses are conducted in English, while certificate (NVQ 3/4) level courses are conducted in Sinhala or Tamil, except for language courses.
Course Schedule and Eligibility:
- Candidates should refer to the Schedule of Courses at the end of this notification for course details, eligibility requirements, and the addresses/contact numbers of colleges.
Part-Time Course Fees:
- Part-time courses are fee-levying, with nominal fees charged based on the period of study.
Full-Time Course Registration Fees:
- Registration fees will be charged for NVQ Level 3/4 and Level 5/6 full-time courses and Language sector courses.
Selection Process:
- Candidates will be selected based on aptitude and communication skills tests, conducted in the same medium as the course, along with an interview. A written exam will be held if there are a high number of applications.
Document Submission:
- No documents or copies should be submitted with the application. Candidates failing to produce required documents at the interview will be disqualified.
Benefits for Full-Time Students:
- Selected full-time students may receive additional benefits, such as a monthly bursary under 'Nipunatha Sisu Saviya' if eligible.
Authenticity of Documents:
- Candidates are responsible for the authenticity of their documents. Any tampering or forgery will result in rejection.
Transfer of Students:
- If the number of students is insufficient for a course, students may be transferred to the nearest college or combined with other colleges conducting the same course.
Part-Time/Weekend Course Certification:
- Applicants for part-time/weekend courses should submit a certification of employment in the relevant field.
Attendance and Performance:
- To be eligible for the final written examination and assessment, students must have at least 75% attendance and a higher performance level at assessments.
Final Examination:
- The final examination will be conducted by the Department of Technical Education & Training for specific courses, and students will also undergo NVQ evaluation tests.
Course Commencement Discretion:
- The Director-General has the discretion to commence or suspend a course if a sufficient number of applications are not received for a listed college in this gazette for 2023.
Language Discrepancies:
- In case of any differences among Sinhala, Tamil, and English publications, Sinhala publication is enforced.
