Open Competitive Examination for Recruitment to the Post of Range Forest Officer
Training Grade of Sri Lanka Technological Service in Department of Forest Conservation - 2023


Applications are invited from qualified citizens of Sri Lanka for the recruitment to the post of Range Forest Officer of Training Grade of Sri Lanka Technological Service in the Department of Forest Conservation. The examination will be held in June 2024 in Colombo.

1. Salary:

  • Training Grade: MN 01 as per Public Administration Circular No.03/2016
    • 1st year: Rs. 27,140/-
    • 2nd year: Rs. 27,440/-
  • Salary Scale: MN 03 as per Public Administration Circular No.03/2016
    • Rs. 31,040-10×445-11×660-10×730-10×750-57,550/=

2. General Terms of Engagement and Service Conditions:
i. Initial recruitment will be to the Training Grade with a two-year training period.
ii. Upon passing the National Vocational Qualifications Level 6 (NVQ – 6) examination at the end of the two-year training, appointments will be made to the Range Forest Officer of Grade III of Sri Lanka Technological Service.
iii. The post is permanent and pensionable. The appointees will be subject to the government's future policy decisions regarding the Pension Scheme entitlements.
iv. A probation period of three years will apply.
v. Range Forest Officers are stationed in remote forested areas, and the selected candidates may be assigned to serve anywhere in Sri Lanka.
vi. The Service Minutes of Sri Lanka Technological Service and the Recruitment Scheme for Range Forest Officers and Forester of Supervisory Management Assistant - Technological Service Category will be applicable.
vii. The examination will be conducted in Sinhala, Tamil, and English. Candidates cannot change the chosen language medium after submission.

3. Age Limit: Candidates must be between 18 and 30 years of age as of the closing date of the application.

4. Educational Qualifications:
(i) Pass in the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) Examination in three (03) subjects (Except Common Test), including Biology or Agriculture in one sitting.

or

(ii) Pass in the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) Examination in three (03) subjects, including either Zoology, Botany, or Agriculture as two subjects in one sitting under the old syllabus.

  • AND -
    (iii) Pass in the General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) Examination in Six (06) subjects with credit passes for Sinhala/Tamil/English Language, Mathematics, Science, and one more subject in one sitting.

5. Other Qualifications:
i. Must be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
ii. Must possess excellent character.
iii. Must meet all requirements for recruitment to the post as of the application closing date.
iv. Only male applicants are eligible for this post.
v. Applicants must be physically and mentally fit to serve anywhere in Sri Lanka and to perform the duties of the post.

6. Method of Recruitment:
I. Candidates meeting the requirements of paragraphs 3, 4, and 5 above must sit for a written examination, followed by a general interview for those who pass the written exam, based on the highest marks.

II. Results will be communicated personally by the Commissioner General of Examinations via post or through the website www.results.exams.gov.lk.

III. In the event of multiple candidates scoring equal marks for the last available vacancy, only those with higher marks will be selected.

IV. Selected candidates will be absorbed into Grade III of Sri Lanka Technological Service after passing Level 6 of National Vocational Qualification (NVQ 6) Examination and completing a two-year theoretical and practical training at the Sri Lanka Forestry Institute in Nuwara Eliya.

7. Syllabus for Written Examination:

  • Paper 1: Intelligence Test
    • Duration: 01 hour
    • Marks: 100
    • Questions: 50 (Multiple-choice and short answers)
  • Paper 2: Subject related Technical Test
    • Duration: 02 hours
    • Marks: 100
    • Topics: Forest resources, effects on organisms, Sri Lankan ecology, geographical importance, agricultural economy, Ministry of Wildlife and Forest Conservation, natural environment, forest and vegetations, relationship between forest and people, basic geography, and general knowledge.

Candidates must score a minimum of 40% in each paper to pass.
