Applications are invited for the Master of Education Degree programme conducted by
the National Institute of Education Maharagama.
1.0 Eligibility:
- Sri Lanka Teacher Service (SLTS)
- Sri Lanka In Service Advisors (SLISA)
- Sri Lanka Principals’ Service (SLPS)
- Sri Lanka Teacher Educator Service (SLTES)
- Sri Lanka Education Administrator Service (SLEAS)
- The Principals & Teachers of Pirivenas or Government approved schools
- The Academic officers of the National Institute of Education or government approved Educational Institutes
2.0 Required Qualifications:
A Postgraduate Diploma in Education with a minimum 05 ‘B’ Passes or
A Bachelor of Education Degree with a minimum 05 ‘B’ Passes or
A First Degree with a class and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education
3.0 Nature of the Course: Part time ( Weekends and School holidays )
4.0 Course duration: 18 months
5.0 Medium:
The course is conducted in all 03 media.( Sinhala/Tamil/ English Medium)
6.0 Regional Centers:
01 National Institute of Education- Maharagama Sinhala Medium 300 students
02 National Institute of Education- Maharagama Tamil Medium 150 students
03 National Institute of Education- Maharagama English Medium 50 students
(Minimum of 50 students should be registered in one medium in the respective center)
7.0 Course Fees:
i Application Processing fee Rs 300/=
ii Entrance Examination fee Rs 1 250/=
iii Registration fee Rs 2 000/=
iv Course fee Rs 100 000/=
NIE has the authority to amend the above mentioned fees without any prior information.
The course fee can be paid in two installments (Rs 75 000/= + 25 000/=)
Please note that the application fee and the Entrance Examination fee are not refundable.
8.0 Mode of selection
Candidates are selected on the basis of marks obtained at the entrance examination and the
interview.

Applicant should pay Online Rs 1 550/= as application processing fee and the Entrance
examination fee to any branch of the Bank of Ceylon (BOC) in favor of Director
General’s account number 607628 at Bank of Ceylon Maharagama
